Spoiler alert: I’ve never made bread before. Never seen bread made before in my presence. This was my first attempt at making bread at home… so I’m basking in the glory of this beautiful loaf. And you can, and should, too!
This recipe is so easy and very hard to mess up–you got this! The dough inside gets nice air pockets and the crust is crunchy, and its just so satisfying to make your own bread.
Ingredients
- 3 cups all purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1/2 teaspoon instant yeast
- 1 1/2 cups water room temperature
Instructions
-
Mix the flour, salt, and yeast together in a large mixing bowl. Once combined, add in the water and mix until just combined. You might need to add a little more water to make sure it's wet throughout.
-
Cover the bowl with plastic wrap for at least 12 hours at room temperature.
-
Place a cast iron dutch oven in your oven while you preheat your oven to 450 degrees. Meanwhile, cover a surface liberally with flour and carefully scape your dough onto the floured surface. Roll it around gently--do not knead the dough--until the outside is covered with flour. Transfer the dough to on top of a piece of parchment paper.
-
When your oven is heated to 450, take the dutch oven out (carefully!) and place the parchment paper with the dough on top to the dutch oven. Place the cover on the dutch oven and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the top and bake for 10 more minutes! Let cool for a few minutes before slicing.

April 8, 2020Can this recipe be converted to a gluten free made with Almond or Coconut Flour?

April 8, 2020I have not tried this, but I would imagine you would need to add more ingredients (like a xantham gum for example) so I would not personally recommend trying this recipe for a 1-for-1 swap of all purpose flour with a gluten-free flour. Although, Bob’s Red Mill does make a gluten free 1-for-1 flour that MIGHT work! Hope that helps 🙂 Thanks for following along!
