Can’t find yeast anywhere during this stay at home time? I couldn’t either! So I figured out how to make bagels without yeast AND only using 4 ingredients for the dough which was a great success!
This recipe only required 4 ingredients: flour, baking powder, salt, and non-fat greek yogurt. I added everything bagel seasoning and used egg whites to adhere the seasoning (but you can also use a cooking spray).
It’s important to get non-fat greek yogurt, otherwise the dough will be too sticky and not airy enough. Also, you can use either all purpose flour, whole wheat flour, or a gluten free flour in the same measurements.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups flour all purpose, whole wheat, or gluten free mix
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 1/8 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 1/2 cups non-fat greek yogurt
- egg white from 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon everything bagel seasoning use less or more to your liking
Instructions
-
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F.
-
Mix the flour, baking powder and kosher salt together. Add in the yogurt and mix with your hands until it just comes together.
-
Then begin to knead and turn the dough about 10-15 times or until the dough feels sticky but it's not actually sticking to your hands.
-
Use either a kitchen scraper or a sharp knife to separate the dough into 6 even pieces. Roll each piece into a ball by rolling the dough against a clean tabletop with one hand. Then using two hands, carefully roll the ball into about 3/4 inch ropes. Bring the ends together and pinch them until they are securely stuck together.
-
Place a silpat on a baking sheet (or use parchment paper with some cooking spray if you don't have a silpat). Place the 6 bagels on the baking sheet.
-
Brush the tops of each bagel with egg white (or use a cooking spray) and season with everything bagel seasoning (you can also do rock salt, sesame seeds, poppy seeds, cinnamon sugar, etc).
-
Bake for 25 minutes. Let the bagels rest for 15 minutes on the baking sheet before slicing and enjoy!
