I’ve always been a lover of bread puddings, particularly dessert versions. This was my first attempt at making a savory bread pudding and let me tell you… it was definitely a huge success!
I created this recipe in collaboration with ALDI grocery stores based on some of their exclusive products, like the star of this recipe… the brioche rolls! See the ingredient list to see exactly which ALDI products I used 🙂
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons Unsalted butter divided
- 1 pound Spicy sausage or chorizo uncased
- 1 package (16.9 oz) Specially Selected Brioche Rolls, cut into 1 inch cubes
- 1 cup Happy Farms Wisconsin Extra Sharp Cheddar shredded
- 1 cup Happy Farms Monterey Jack cheese shredded
- 1 cup Happy Farms Pepper Jack cheese shredded
- 6 Eggs
- 2 cups Half and half
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper
Instructions
-
Grease a 9 x 13-inch baking dish with about 1 tablespoon of butter.
-
Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a large non-stick sauté pan on medium-high heat. Add sausage and cook, stirring and breaking into smaller pieces with a wooden spoon for about 10 minutes (or until cooked and browned on the outside). Transfer sausage to a large bowl.
-
Add bread crumbs and grated cheese to the bowl with the sausage.
-
In a medium bowl, whisk together eggs, half and half, salt and pepper. Add mixture to the large bowl with bread mixture and carefully fold until well combined (as not to squash the bread cubes).
-
Let sit for at least 15 minutes for bread to soak up the mixture or up to overnight (if longer than an hour, cover the bowl with saran wrap).
-
Preheat oven to 350 degrees and bake for about 45-50 minutes. Let cool for about 5 minutes before serving.
I was eating this bad boy allllll weekend and into the next week if that’s any indication of whether you should make this dish!
