If you’ve been to In-N-Out then I don’t have to tell you how amazing the combination of their special sauce with their caramelized onions on either their burger or fries! Well I was craving them randomly and decided to recreate it at home (and make it vegan with the use of non-dairy cheese BUT feel free to use regular cheese on yours if you don’t mind!!).
- 1 tablespoon vegan butter
- 1 white onion medium chopped
- 1 pinch Kosher salt
- 1 1/2 tablespoons ketchup
- 1/4 cup vegan mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon dijon mustard
- 2 tablespoons relish
- 1/4 teaspoon dark brown sugar
- 1 pinch paprika
- 1 pinch garlic powder
- 1 bag frozen shoestring fries
Add vegan butter to your saucepan on medium heat. Once sizzling, add onions and stir until well coated. Season with a pinch of kosher salt.
Lower the heat to low and stir every few minutes for 20 minutes. Cook for another 10 minutes or until dark brown, stirring often.
Mix all ingredients together and place in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil or parchment paper and place frozen fries on the sheet. Bake according to your bag instructions.
Place sliced cheese over fries and put back in the oven until melted (you can also use your broiler if you have one for this).
Top with sauce and caramelized onions and enjoy!
