Sausage Cast Iron Pizza

Servings 1 pizza

Ingredients

  • 2 hot Italian sausages removed from casing
  • all purpose flour
  • fresh pizza dough If your using a 12 inch skillet, use about 12 ounces of pizza dough (9 inch, use 9 ounces, etc)
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • canned pizza sauce
  • fresh mozzarella cheese sliced
  • 1 tablespoon parmesan cheese plus more for topping
  • 1 teaspoon fresh basil chopped
  • 1 pinch kosher salt
  • 1 pinch freshly cracked black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 475 degrees F

  2. Heat your cast iron on medium heat. Once hot, add sausage crumbles and brown on all sides. Remove the sausage but leave the grease left in the pan.

  3. On a clean, dry surface throw about 2-3 pinches of all purpose flour to cover your surface. Place about 1/2 to 3/4 of your pizza dough on top of the flour and stretch it out until its about the same size of your skillet.

  4. Place your dough inside the skillet. Brush olive oil on the crust (about 1/2 to 1 inch width) and spread pizza sauce on the inside. Top with fresh mozzarella, browned sausage, and parmesan cheese.

  5. Transfer your skillet the stovetop and heat on medium-high heat for about 3 minutes or until the bottom begins to slightly brown.

  6. Transfer the skillet to the oven and bake for 10-14 minutes. Remove from the skillet and place on a cutting board. Let rest for at least 5 minutes, top with chopped basil and more parmesan cheese and enjoy!
