Well, some fads are a fad for a reason… because they are AWESOME. And this Dalgona coffee is absolutely one of them. Basically, making this delicious frothy coffee makes you feel like you’re a trained barista.
This coffee reminds me of the oat milk latte I sometimes treat myself to at La Colombe… it’s that good! I actually made this Dalgona coffee for the first time yesterday and had to share it immediately! So here’s a little thing to brighten your day during these tougher times that many of you are experiencing, like myself, of sheltering at home.
This recipe is simple and uses about 1 part instant coffee, sugar (I use a little less sugar than most recipes) and warm water over milk and ice. I like to use a good oat milk (I recommend either Califia Farms or Oatly) and to add a dash of cinnamon in the oat milk coffee as well!
Note on whisking: Hand whisking does take quite some time to get it to be as frothy as in my photos (because I used an electric mixer) but the flavor will definitely be there if you don’t get it as frothy! If you want to make a small investment, I’ve been using a hand frother that I found on Amazon that typically go for about $10-20. Takes just a few seconds and very easy to clean!
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons instant coffee (or decaf)
- 1 1/2 tablespoons sugar in the raw or granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons hot water
- 1 pinch cinnamon
- 1/2 cup oat milk or milk of your choice
- ice cube(s) I used two large cubes
Instructions
-
Put instant coffee, sugar and hot water into a small mixing bowl.
-
Using an electric mixer, beat on high for about 30 seconds or until it becomes light in color and frothy. If using a hand whisk, this may take a few minutes so get that arm workout in!
-
In a coffee cup, add a small handful of ice and pour over milk (about half of your cup should be milk and ice) and the pinch of cinnamon and mix.
-
Scoop the frothy coffee mixture over the milk and ice. Stir and enjoy!
