Have leftover bread from the day before? Love the crunchy addition of nice croutons to your salad? Well it’s very easy to make these croutons at home and you can get creative and add more seasonings to yours, too!
I like making these with a nice baguette and the best part is that day-old bread works best for this recipe so it’s perfect for when you don’t want to toss that hard bread and want to re-purpose it! You can use sourdough bread for this as well, I just prefer a nice, crunchy French baguette.
Ingredients
- 1 French baguette or 4 cups cubed sourdough bread
- 1/3 cup extra virgin olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 pinch dried oregano
Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
-
Cut baguette into 3/4 inch cubes and place into a mixing bowl. Add in olive oil and toss them in the bowl until they are all well and evenly coated.
-
Like a baking sheet with aluminum foil. Lay the bread cubes on the sheet and season evenly with salt, pepper, garlic powder and oregano.
-
Bake for 5 minutes, give them a turn, and bake for another 5 minutes. Let cool and add to your salad!
Storing
-
You can store these in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks in the fridge or 2 months in the freezer.
