So what makes this smoothie “chocolate”? Raw cacao powder, which is a Mayan superfood with a ton of antioxidants as well as a great source for magnesium and iron. I’ve recently come to love Navitas Naturals products with their raw cacao powder as no exception. Here’s just one place where you can purchase it online: Thrive Market. It’s gluten free, has ZERO grams of sugar, and is only 20 calories per tablespoon.
What makes this smoothie have a “mousse” texture? Avocado. Yepp…I put avocado in this smoothie. If you’re not familiar with this sneaky little trick, it’s life changing. Not only can you get the great health benefits of avocados (e.g. healthy fats and fiber) but it gives this flufffy, mousse-like texture to your smoothies!
Let’s get to it:
Chocolate Banana Mousse Smoothie
- 2 ripe bananas
- 1/4 avocado
- 1 heaping tablespoon raw cacao powder
- 5 ice cubes
- 2/3 cups almond milk
- 2 teaspoons agave nectar
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil
Optional toppings for a smoothie bowl:
- dried coconut found here via Try the World
- sliced mango
- fresh raspberries
- chia seeds
Blend all ingredients together! Pour into a cup to drink or a bowl and top with your favorite smoothie bowl additions!
